We all feel overwhelmed at some stage in life. Being busy is increasingly seen as badge of honour. However, this mindset is causing people to experience anxiety, burnout and exhaustion.
Looking after your body, mind and spirit is an art that can be mastered, with some simple measures and setting aside time for yourself.
When you slow down, you allow yourself to get in “the flow”, re-set your mind to a fresh start and re-boost your energy drive. Art making can give you the same stillness and peaceful experience as meditation, with the added benefit of nourishing your senses (of touch, sight and smell, for example).
Art teaches us how to slow down and “see”: see the colours within colours, the textures, the hidden patterns. We notice the polarities in nature (as in life!): the dance between light and dark, the stillness and the rhythms. In today’s hustle and bustle lifestyle, we barely look at things, at people, at nature. And even when we look, it’s usually a furtive glance, before going back to an action or to “ourselves”.
Art making also helps you sleep better and stress less, by fostering joy and gratitude.
