Why Art?

ART SPEAKS TO US IN WAYS THAT WORDS CANNOT

In Art Therapy, the creation process is essential, not the result.  Making art can help release powerful emotions, dig into the deepest sorrows, heal and mend.

It speaks to and from our core, a place of self-identity and authenticity, that is uniquely ours.

Those involved in this creation process go through a deep exploration of their thoughts and feelings and, under guidance, they can transfer these feelings onto their creation. In this therapeutic partnership, the therapist aims to understand the patient on a deep human level and to shape the therapeutic support according to the patient’s uniqueness.

The art techniques used are tailored to patient’s specific needs and affinities. Various materials (fluid paints, clay, dry pastels, sand etc.), themes and narratives are carefully selected according to specific therapeutic goals, and the artistic process can be adjusted to the physical constraints posed by the patient.
