The therapy can last from 6 weeks to a few years, depending on the therapeutic goals. Best results are achieved if sessions are carried out weekly, for a duration of 1 to 1.5 hours.
The first session is usually an introductory one, where the therapist and the patient share essential information. The patient is presented with useful information on how art therapy works, the materials, the workshop structure, and any other topics to be clarified. The patient is encouraged (but not obliged) to share some insight on their state of health, family status, major life events and their expectations.
A typical session starts with a “settling-in” time where patient can settle into the quiet space of creative work. This initial time can be completed with a breathing exercise, a guided visualisation, a short reading, usually in relation to current topics or chosen art theme. This will be followed by art making and self – reflection.
Sessions can be individual or in a group. Group sessions are great opportunities to be among like-minded people and are centred around specific therapeutic needs, such as vitality boost, immersion into nature etc. Individual sessions offer a private space to connect to your innermost being.
All sessions, artwork, information and insights are private and confidential.
