Your Unique, personal experience
Art therapy invites you to explore your inner experience and translates it into images. This image is uniquely and intimately YOURS, so it does not need to fit any artistic concept.
no experience or skills necessary
Since the emphasis is on your self expression and not on aesthetics, no experience or technical skills are needed.
you are an active participant
You are an active participant in this journey. With the therapist’s guidance, you find your personal meaning through art-making. Very few therapies put such emphasis on the active participation of the patient.
you create something tangible
Art therapy is one of the few therapies in which you have the opportunity to create something lasting, that records your experiences, meanings and feeling – which you can review later on, to look back on your progress!
Did you know that you can more easily express your feelings and thoughts through drawings than by describing them?
Freud noticed that art is closer to the unconscious because our visual perceptions predate our capacity for verbal expressions. While not a cognitive process per se (as in a typical speaking therapy), art making tunes into our “visual thinking”.
Looking after your body, mind and spirit is an art that can be mastered, with some simple measures and setting aside time for yourself – art making being one of the most rewarding ones.
Art making can help with anxiety, depression, burnout, eating disorders, relief from overwhelming emotions, loss and trauma.
You can also use art workshops simply to enhance joy and positive self-care, in the midst of the hustle and bustle of contemporary life. When you incorporate art in your life on a regular basis, it trains your eyes to “see” the world differently.
